David Daniel Campbell

I am an aspiring deaf screenwriter who signs in American Sign Language (ASL) and writes in English. My dream is to have most of my screenplays turned into films and to form a film and video production company that produces films with deaf characters who use ASL (whether it's major, minor, stock or extra role) in all of the screenplays/films.

My name is Dave

Born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, all of my writings began when I was a teenager commuting by a Greyhound bus from Downtown Vancouver to Langley (a journey of about 45 mins each way) for school every day for three years. In a time before phones, tablets, laptops, I often found myself daydreaming and eventually started writing many stories on the bus. I was also a big fan of movies while growing up.

Unfortunately, my mom found all of those papers and notes I wrote on the bus, and she decided to throw them out without discussing them with me because she deemed them "inappropriate" for everyone else to read. I was a kid back then and wrote stories that were really dark, filled with grotesque words and a lot of killings. My mom was probably scared and thought I was a crazy troublemaker when I was young, eh?

A few years after graduating from high school in 1995, I wanted to learn how movies work. I watched a bunch of behind-the-scenes bonus features on DVDs and eventually found out that screenplays are the backbone of every film. So, I learned how to write a screenplay.

I started studying and reading a lot of books, doing extensive research on the internet, and reading numerous screenplays to understand how the process works and how to turn my ideas and stories into a movie through scriptwriting.

At the age of 28, after two setbacks with cancer when I was a young adult, I completed my very first full-length screenplay. In addition, I wrote a short film screenplay and participated in NYC Midnight competitions for several years to polish my screenplay writing skills (writing many short screenplays).

For the last several years, I stopped writing screenplays and focused on my future, life, and finding myself again. Now, I have picked up my old habit and am trying to write more screenplays, with a focus on full-length screenplays. I also want to set up a film and video production company so that some of my screenplays can be produced into films. And here I am!
